Pregnancy Essentials That Are Worth Every Penny (and What You Can Skip)
Okay, here’s the truth. shopping for a new little baby is exciting, but it can get overwhelming (and expensive!) fast. And a lot of moms tend to forget about themselves! So, here’s what most first-time moms actually use- for themselves and for baby:
Must-Haves for YOU:
Maternity clothes- or clothes that you can literally grow into.
Trust! You do not want to be fighting those jeans in the second and third trimesters. I opted for all dresses both times (also helped I was pregnant in the heat of summer!) but do what works for you.
Supportive bra
If you even think you’ll be breastfeeding, invest (like $30) in a maternity bra. Got mine from Target! They are comfortable and great for breastfeeding.
Body pillow- I still have mine even 2 years later!
Prenatal vitamins
Specifically folic acid (I know, sounds awful but is great for brain development)
Iron
Calcium and Vitamin D = healthy bones and teeth for baby
Vitamin C- helps with the iron absorption
DHA/EHA also called Omega-3’s (Nordic Naturals is about the only brand I could stomach. Try them out!)
It may be a bit premature but, pack your hospital bag in advance
Large water bottle- you and baby will need lots of water to stay hydrated
No-hands, slip on shoes! Like the fancy tennis shoes you don’t have to put your hands on to get on or flip flops (depending on the season and where you live ofc!)
A carseat
You have to have a car seat to bring a baby home from the hospital- it’s like, the law. so research these and get them setup in the car in advance.
Skip it (or wait):
A stroller- unless you’re getting a travel system (includes a car seat) then get it all at once.
Fancy or bulky diaper bags (or anything for that matter)
Tons of newborn clothes
So many people will give their baby clothes away for free (and most have never been worn!). This is a huge place to save!
Complicated gadgets
Some gadgets you will need but you won’t know until baby is here what you’ll actually need. Like, an Owlet sock? Maybe but also maybe you co-sleep with baby and don’t feel like you need one. A bassinet that rocks baby to sleep? Again, maybe but some babies hate these kinds of things. So, wait until baby has arrived to actually purchase (but not research) the fancy gadgets.
Less is more. Focus on comfort, support, and what makes you feel good.
